The Languages Center Vision Statement

The Languages Center at Universidad Nacional de Chimborazo will become leader in the teaching of Foreign Languages. The University has nationwide recognition and the ability to provide a high quality service in every level of human performance. Students are characterized by motivation to acquire meaningful learning to be applied in daily social and academic environments.

Message from the Languages Center Coordinator

 

Today’s world is overwhelming, demanding and changing. Things happen so sudden that people have to manage themselves to live in this actual world and learn new skills for having success in this competitive environment. From these realities, learning a foreign language enables bridging social barriers. A person gets to enjoy social and economic benefits, as well as the mental benefits of learning a foreign language.

Language Center at Chimborazo National University is a brand new academic supportive unit for the four faculties. It is conformed by 42 capable skilled English and French teachers, trained at home and abroad, for teaching the communicative approach ready to develop and enhance a variety of cognitive and communicative skills in students of the different faculties. Language Center at UNACH coordinates the teaching of English and French as foreign languages for students. The objective is to develop the language as a source of communication to generate scientific and technological processes related to their profession.

These foreign language students are exposed to a whole set of new language structure and makes them more conscious of vocabulary, grammar, idioms, sentence construction, comprehension and conversing.

Mrs. Sandra Abarca holds a Master’s degree in Education Management and Leadership as well as a Master’s in Language Teaching. She was coordinator of the Language Department at Universidad Tecnológica Equinoccial. She is leader of an outreach project to link the university with indigenous communities. Mr. Luis F. Barriga holds a Bachelor´s degree in English Language Teaching and a Diploma in New Methodologies for Teaching English. Mr. Edison Damián is an English professor as well as a translator. He is a member of the Research Institute ICITS–UNACH. He served as Director of the Languages Center at the College of Education for several years. His interests are in teaching and evaluation based on e-learning applications. Mrs. Silvana Célleri has worked as an English teacher for six years. She is currently undertaking her master’s program in Applied Linguistics. Ms. Mónica Guerra is a tenured Professor of EFL. She holds a Master’s Degree in Distance Learning Education. She is Commissioner of Language Center Head. She is the author of books as part of teaching Foreign Languages for Specific Purposes. Her research interests are in assessment, ESP, methodology, technologies, and higher education. Miss María Fernanda Ponce holds a Bachelor´s degree in EFL. She obtained her Master’s degree in Intermediate Education at the University of Calabria. Mr. Geovanny Armas is a professor of English as a Foreign Language. He has a Master’s degree in Linguistics Applied to the Learning of English. He has been a professor of English since 1999.
